The creek on Creek Street

This artwork celebrates the natural history of the area. The fig trees diagonally opposite provided inspiration and the element of running water is included as a reminder of the creek after which Creek Street is named and which still flows underground. It was because of the existence of a fresh water source at this site that it was selected for European settlement and the city of Brisbane stands here today. I have gone back to this origin to remind people who walk the streets today in the world of business and an environment of concrete and steel of what was here before. Included in the design are 14 animals native to the Brisbane area.
